1 Corinthians 2:3-5

1 Corinthians 2:3–5 (ESV): "3 And I was with you in weakness and in fear and much trembling, 4 and my speech and my message were not in plausible words of wisdom, but in demonstration of the Spirit and of power, 5 so that your faith might not rest in the wisdom of men but in the power of God."

Self-reliance is a great way to hinder the Holy Spirit. He will not overstep your will which means He will let you fall flat on your face if you so choose. On the other hand, if you rely on Him you will see amazing works and words of wisdom.

Paul came to Corinth not as a powerhouse preacher that was confident in himself but in weakness and fear and trembling. Paul understood that if the Corinthians stood a chance of coming to Christ it was not going to be because of his persuasive words. He didn't consider himself the reason people got saved. He understood rightly that the power is in the Spirit and if he wanted to see God move he would have to get out of the way and let the Spirit move through him.

The pressure is off Christian. You need not rely on yourself to bring the Gospel to the lost. The Holy Spirit has already gone before you and tenderized the heart and He has the perfect words to speak to those whom the Father is drawing. You are simply the mouthpiece which God will use to deliver His powerful truth. Come in weakness and fear and trembling in the name of our mighty God and allow the Spirit to use you today. Rely on Him alone and you will see great things.

Father we thank You for not being dependent on us to be eloquent in speech or impressive in stature in order to use us. All we have to be is reliant upon You. Help us to never rely upon ourselves but to rely solely on the Holy Spirit so we can never take any of Your glory we pray in Jesus name, amen!
