1 Corinthians 12:18-20;26

1 Corinthians 12:18–20;26 (ESV): "18 But as it is, God arranged the members in the body, each one of them, as he chose. 19 If all were a single member, where would the body be? 20 As it is, there are many parts, yet one body...26 If one member suffers, all suffer together; if one member is honored, all rejoice together."

The human body is a specimen of unity to behold. If any given part goes rogue the entire body is affected. So it is with the body of Christ. We are many members but one body. We must walk in unity lest the body becomes dysfunctional.

Paul has been speaking about unity within the body of Christ for twelve straight chapters and for good reason, there is disunity in Corinth. Unity is vital to the body if it is to function correctly. Like the human body, everyone in the body of Christ has a specific role. If parts of the body neglect their function then the whole body pays for it. We should be so unified that when one member suffers we all suffer and when one is honored we all rejoice together. What would the world experience if the body of Christ were unified like this?

How are you contributing to the unity of the body of Christ? Are you functioning as you should or have you forsaken your role? Ask yourself today, "Am I a foot, a hand, or the armpit of the body?" Embrace your membership and walk in it! We need you, and you need us. So walk in your gifting in the body of Christ and watch the unity that is produced make us healthier than ever. Amen?

Father, we thank You for making us members of the body of Christ. Help us to find our role and to do it well. May we never neglect to do our part. Unify us as You (the triune Godhead) are unified we prayed in Jesus' name, amen.
