1 Chronicles 29:9

1 Chronicles 29:9 (ESV): 9 Then the people rejoiced because they had given willingly, for with a whole heart they had offered freely to the Lord. David the king also rejoiced greatly.

God commands that we make offerings to Him but He leaves the amount up to us. The only New Testament mandate for giving is that we give generously and cheerfully (2 Cor 9:6-7).

After King David had charged the people of Israel and his son Solomon to follow God and build His house he made a freewill offering to God out of his own treasure. The leaders of Israel after seeing this then gave freely of their treasure as well. Then all the people rejoiced for they had given generously to God, not out of compulsion but out of freedom from the resources that were given to them.

Holding tightly to what you have is a prison of sorts. It produces greed and idolatry but giving freely of your finances produces a heart full of joy and gladness. That's why Jesus said, "it is better to give than to receive (Acts 20:25)." If your heart is souled out to God then your treasure will also belong to Him for where your treasure is there your heart will be also. So then, check your heart today. If you want to experience true jubilance give freely to God, not out of compulsion or because you have to but rather give generously because you get to and watch and see an overwhelming sense of joy fill your heart.

Father, we thank You for blessing us with all that we have. You have given freely to us to the point that it hurt, namely Your only begotten Son. May we then give in the same manner, willingly and cheerfully. You are worthy of all that we have and more God. May we express that through the offerings we make to You in Jesus' name, amen.
