Genesis 18:12–15 (ESV): 12 So Sarah laughed to herself, saying, "After I am worn out, and my lord is old, shall I have pleasure?" 13 The Lord said to Abraham, "Why did Sarah laugh and say, 'Shall I indeed bear a child, now that I am old?' 14 Is anything too hard for the Lord? At the appointed time I will return to you, about this time next year, and Sarah shall have a son." 15 But Sarah denied it, saying, "I did not laugh," for she was afraid. He said, "No, but you did laugh."
Laughter is a wonderful expression of emotion. We ought to laugh as often as we can, just not at Gods promises.
When Abraham was one hundred years old and his wife ninety God told him he would have a son. Abraham fell on his facing laughing at the thought. He then proclaimed "Oh that Ishmael might live." God then told him it was not Ismael for he was a product of the flesh. At the same time the Lord changed Sarai's name to Sarah, which means "princess". The Lord then appeared to Abraham and told him again Sarah would bear a son and his name shall be Issac which means "he laughs." She overheard this proclamation and laughed at the thought of a worn out old lady having a baby. When the Lord asked her why she laughed she denied it calling the Lord a liar.
Outlandish promises are made all the time but when God makes them we need to take them serious. He is able to do anything He promises to do no matter how unbelievable it might be. How often do we smirk or laugh at Gods promises? Are you willing to accept the impossible if it's promised to others but just not for yourself? Don't laugh, God loves you and He is serious about His promises. Rather than doubt just receive them. And if you have doubted don't call God a liar when He calls you out. Repent and ask for a heart to believe.
Father we thank You for being so incredibly patient with us. The things You endure to bless us is amazing. Forgive our unbelief and help us to receive wholeheartedly all that You have promised us. We trust and believe You for all things. Have Your way and will in our lives we pray in Jesus name, amen!
