Deuteronomy 4:29-31

Deuteronomy 4:29–31 (ESV): "29 But from there you will seek the Lord your God and you will find him, if you search after him with all your heart and with all your soul. 30 When you are in tribulation, and all these things come upon you in the latter days, you will return to the Lord your God and obey his voice. 31 For the Lord your God is a merciful God. He will not leave you or destroy you or forget the covenant with your fathers that he swore to them."

How merciful do you have to be to knowingly acknowledge that an entire nation will betray you and yet still provide a way of escape for them? That is God for you.

God prophesied to Moses that when the Children of Israel enter the Promised Land they will begin to worship other gods. This betrayal would eventually end up in captivity specifically by the Babylonians. However, God said when the Children of Israel turned back to God with repentant hearts He would rescue them once again. This would also occur another time in the "later days" when "tribulation" comes. Of course, this is a reference to the seven-year Tribulation period. The Children of Israel will seek the Lord and be found by Him during this time as well. The key is in the seeking.

Perhaps you are facing hardship today as a result of turning to idols. The Lord wants you to know that the moment you turn back to Him that He is there to receive you. He is amazing and will never leave us behind. However, we must seek Him with all our hearts. He does not accept half-hearted seeking. He requires 100% of your heart. Turn to Him today and see just how merciful He really is. Our Father desires to forgive and restore. May we desire His mercy to be poured out upon us!

Father, we thank You for Your merciful kindness towards us. We have all gone astray and have turned to worship other gods. Forgive us and cleanse us of this betrayal. We turn our hearts back to You this day. Have Your way in us. Make Yourself known throughout the land through us we pray in Jesus' name, amen!
