2 Samuel 12:13-15
2 Samuel 12:13–15 (ESV): "13 David said to Nathan, "I have sinned against the Lord." And Nathan said to David, "The Lord also has put away your sin; you shall not die. 14 Nevertheless, because by this deed you have utterly scorned the Lord, the child who is born to you shall die." 15 Then Nathan went to his house."
The wages of sin is death (Rom 3:23). It always has been and always will be. Thankfully Jesus satisfied the debt we owed with His own blood and we will not die spiritually but don't think for a second that sin has lost its power to produce physical death upon us. It still can (1 Jn 5:16; Acts 5:1-11).
The Lord’s hand was on David thus he experienced constant victory. This victory brought complacency in his heart so when the Israelites went out against the Ammonites David stayed home. One day David caught a glimpse of Bathsheba the wife of Uriah the Hittite bathing and desired her. After receiving news of her pregnancy David brought Uriah home from war to try and cover up his sin but Uriah refused to sleep with his wife so David sent him back to war to the front lines to die. Nathan the prophet then came to David and told him the Lord saw his sin and now the sword would never depart from his house and this child with Bathsheba would die as a result. The wages of sin is death.
David escaped this situation with his life and yet his sin still produced death. Don't think for a moment you are gonna get away with your habitual and grievous sin. God sees and He will act accordingly. Don't fool yourself into thinking it's OK cause you haven't experienced anything negative yet. Death will show up if you keep messing with sin. Lay it down before it's too late. Repent, ask God for forgiveness and the power to overcome. He is able to save to the uttermost. Turn away from your secret sins today. Choose life and watch God move.
Father, we thank You for Your amazing love for us. We thank You that nothing can separate from Your love. Move in might and power upon our lives and help us to lay down our sins before You. Protect us from experiencing the fruit of sin which is death. We surrender our lives to You now in Jesus mighty name, amen.
